Treasure Data Releases Latest Version of Open Source Phenomenon Fluentd, Joins the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF)
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA–(Marketwired – June 20, 2016) – Treasure Data, which creates analytics infrastructure-as-a-service, just announced Version 0.14.0 of Fluentd, its open source data collector framework already used as key software by some of the most data-intensive companies in the world. This new release supports Windows, as well as revamping the Plugin API in order to streamline the process for writing custom plugins.
Fluentd has quickly become the de facto data collection framework and is used by Atlassian, Microsoft Operations Management Suite, Nintendo and many others. Since its launch, the community has created more than 400 plugins making it easy to collect, process and ship data among a variety of systems and platforms. The new Plugin APIs are designed to accelerate plugin development even more by adding a new class of plugins and streamlining the existing ones.
The robustness and performance of Fluentd is what allows companies to scale data collection effortlessly. Since launching Fluentd, the largest Fluentd deployment processes more than a billion events per second across 10,000+ servers.
Additionally, the Fluentd version 0.14.0 will:
Support nanosecond resolutions for timestamp
Support the new Storage plugin to simplify configuration and state management.
“Our community has played a big role in the success of Fluentd, so we wanted to make it easier than ever for our community to contribute new plugins. Additionally, Windows support is one of our most frequent requests for Fluentd, so overall we expect great things from our latest release,” says Sadayuki Furuhashi, Co-founder of Treasure Data and the creator of Fluentd.
Additionally, Treasure Data is joining the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a silver-level sponsor to help raise awareness of the cloud native approach to computing.Treasure Data’s participation in CNCF will ensure that Fluentd will continue to serve as the standard logging agent for Kubernetes, the leading open source container orchestration framework sponsored by CNCF.
“We support the mission of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, and wanted to show our commitment to keep improving Fluentd for the cloud native ecosystem, which is why we’re thrilled to be joining CNCF,” says Hiro Yoshikawa, Co-founder and CEO of Treasure Data.
“With an overabundance of choice counterintuitively becoming a problem for enterprise consumers of open source, foundations have become increasingly important centers of gravity providing a variety of benefits from IP management to license and development model assurances,” said Stephen O’Grady, Principal Analyst with RedMonk. “By joining the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, Fluentd moves to a well known foundation to be developed alongside other open source projects with a similar vision.”
